By providing NIH’s Intramural Research Program (IRP) investigators with state-of-the-art, high-performance computing (HPC) resources, we make it possible for researchers to pursue questions that were once beyond their reach.

NIH’s supercomputer Biowulf provides investigators with a world-class HPC environment for advancing biomedical science and enabling innovations in scientific research. CIT’s HPC service area leads the NIH Biowulf cluster expansion. Biowulf continues to be ranked in the top 500 most powerful supercomputers in the world by the TOP500 project.

CIT’s HPC capability makes it much easier for researchers to:

  • Conduct large-scale data analyses
  • Move, sync, and share large amounts of data within NIH and with other institutions
  • Access hundreds of applications for genomics, molecular and structural biology, mathematical analysis, image analysis, deep learning, and other research areas
