Cloud Computing Services

Addressing Practical Challenges of Modern Biomedical Research

By providing NIH and NIH-funded researchers with access to cloud-based technologies, services, and training, we make it possible for researchers to modernize the NIH-funded biomedical data science ecosystem.

WHAT WE PROVIDE

Access to Industry-Leading Cloud Services

CIT manages the day-to-day planning and operations of the Science and Technology Research Infrastructure for Discovery, Experimentation, and Sustainability (STRIDES) Initiative. The STRIDES Initiative partners with industry-leading commercial providers to provide cost-effective access to computing, storage, professional services, training, and other related cloud services. By leveraging the STRIDES Initiative, NIH and NIH-funded institutions can begin to create a robust, interconnected ecosystem that breaks down silos related to generating, analyzing, and sharing research data.

“Our biggest benefit in working with cloud services—and now doing so through the STRIDES Initiative—is that we get to share the wealth. By uploading our data to the cloud and making it accessible to researchers, we enable others to use our software, particularly other investigators who don’t operate at the scale we do, and who wouldn’t have access to this data otherwise.” – David Levine, Principal Research Scientist, Department of Biostatistics, University of Washington

Who Is Eligible to Participate in the STRIDES Initiative?

NIH and NIH-funded researchers are eligible to leverage the STRIDES Initiative to access cutting-edge cloud services and tools, which includes access to favorable pricing on industry-leading commercial cloud environments from STRIDES Initiative partners. In addition to the broad catalog of cloud services, NIH and NIH-funded researchers have access to consulting resources, training, and billing assistance to facilitate data computation, storage, sharing, analysis, and sustainability.
