Tired of staring at the calendar and wondering if your post-doc will ever end? Does the 'next-step' terrify you more than cell culture contamination? If either of these rings true, then this panel is definitely for you! The FELCOM-Career Development team is bringing you a stellar panel of industry scientists to talk about their likes, dislikes, and how to make it in the world of biotechnology and other non-academic science positions. In addition, a social networking event will follow immediately after the panel, and it will include many more industry professionals that will not be in attendance for the panel discussion. Come and join the conversation for our "Careers in Industry" panel to see if this is the right career choice for you!

Neuroscience Seminar Series

Dr. Robert Wenthold Memorial Seminar

Dr. Richard Huganir is Professor and Director of the Department of Neuroscience at Johns Hopkins University. He is also a Howard Hughes Medical Institute investigator. He is a member of the National Academy of Sciences and the Institute of Medicine. He is a former chair of the NINDS board of scientific counselors. He is currently the Associate Editor of “Neuron”. His laboratory is credited for examining the molecular mechanisms underlying the regulation of neurotransmitter receptor function with a focus on glutamate receptors. Their studies have suggested that regulation of receptor function may be a major mechanism for the regulation of synaptic plasticity in the nervous system in health and disease and may be an important determinant of animal behavior.

It is common for scientists to present their research findings to the peers at scientific poster sessions. Postbac Poster Day, held in the Natcher Conference Center in May provides the opportunity for NIH postbacs to present their research. Last year more 250 Postbacs participated. This workshop will help prepare you for this exciting activity. The workshop will focus on selecting and organizing data, the key sections of a successful poster, layout and font selection, and poster presentation techniques.
